Course overview

As the leading provider of spatial science courses in Australia, USQ offers a practical, skill and knowledge-based degree that will allow you to learn more about geographical information systems or surveying.

This degree:

  • is the only full accredited three-year course
  • will provide you hands-on industry experience.

When you complete the degree, you are able to apply for registration and/or licensing as a professional mining surveyor with the Surveyors Boards of Queensland and New South Wales.

As the only fully accredited program offered externally, USQ's Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology (Geographic Information Systems) will prepare you for a career in one of Australia's most rapidly changing industries. Work with sophisticated technology and tools including satellite imagery and laser measurement systems for 3D mapping and visualization of the natural and built environment and develop practical experience alongside technical, analytical and leadership skills.

Most USQ Spatial Science students secure professional employment before they graduate through the work experience they gain through their degree. With your experience and expertise, you'll have the opportunity to work as a professional Geographic Information Systems Manger or Spatial Information Analyst in areas including the Government, environmental or transportation.

When you graduate with your Bachelor of Spatial Science Technology in Geographic Information Systems, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute Australia.
