Course overview

This program aims to enable experienced engineering technologists to demonstrate, or acquire and demonstrate, their attainment of the academic, personal, professional, and technical knowledge, skills and understanding required to commence practice as a graduate professional engineer in Australia or overseas within appropriate social, cultural, industrial and environmental contexts. Right from the beginning students will be able to use the knowledge and skills they have already gained in the workplace to complete their first year core units. Through self-assessment and workplace portfolios students will demonstrate how they may already meet engineers Australia's competencies and identify the technical courses they need to complete in order to graduate. This program allows students to get a step ahead without having to step back from their work or life commitments. Students will build upon their prior knowledge in power systems engineering with advanced studies in areas such as electrical technology and electricity supply systems. Their capstone course will see them working in USQ's state-of-the-art laboratories on advanced electrical and electronic equipment not always available in the workplace. Through this degree students will gain the eligibility to apply for membership as a professional engineer with engineers Australia. They will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with their accreditation recognised in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, Ireland, Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Africa.
