Course overview

If you are seeking a career in law, USQ's 3-year Bachelor of Laws degree will get you there sooner. Accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board as an academic qualification for admission as a lawyer in Queensland, USQ's Bachelor of Laws is one of only a few degrees which can be completed in 3 years.

Your studies will prepare you for practice as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland or a legal practitioner elsewhere in Australia, but a law degree also prepares you for many other careers in business, commerce and government.

You can study on-campus at either Springfield or Toowoomba, or via distance education and be surrounded by experienced and approachable lecturers and fellow students who are as passionate about law as you are.

Professional relevance

Our Law degrees have been developed with an Advisory Committee of senior judges and lawyers who have all given it their enthusiastic endorsement. Our lecturers have a wealth of experience in a diverse range of backgrounds, including criminal law, human rights, international and comparative law, family law, environmental law, property law and commercial law.

Real world experience

You will hone your skills in USQ's Wonderley & Hall Moot Court and can take advantage of our Work Integrated Learning courses with professional experience in law practices and advocacy and support centres, making you a highly employable graduate.

Further study

Enhance your employment opportunities and complete a research project within law. USQ offers the only graduate Honours program for a law degree in Australia - Bachelor of Law (Honours).

Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Laws has been accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board, Queensland, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland as an approved academic qualification under the Supreme Court (Admission) Rules 2004 (Qld). This will partially satisfy the requirements to practise as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland, or as a legal practitioner elsewhere in Australia. Intending solicitors and barristers must also complete an approved practical legal training course in order to become admitted to practise law. Advice on practical legal training programs can be obtained through Ask USQ.

Career outcomes

The Bachelor of Laws also opens up a wide range of career paths within the public service, government, politics, non-government organisations and businesses, as well as providing you with the skills to be a highly effective legal practitioner.
