About Bachelor of Creative Arts (BCAR) (Theatre), Bachelor Degree - at University of Southern Queensland

Bachelor of Creative Arts (Theatre) will teach you to master your choice of theatre performance, theory, or stage management at one of Australia's longest-running professional training organisations. This degree provides an equal mix of studio practice and theoretical reflection and learning, which allows you to explore areas such as children and young people's theatre, community theatre, creative development of new works and video production. You will master textual analysis, scene rehearsal, vocal/body instrument training, improvisation, dramatic history/literature, and public performance. After the first year, you can also choose to audition to pursue specialised training in the Acting Studio or the Stage Management and Technical Production Studio.

Take the opportunity to specialise in one studio for the entire degree or combine disciplines within creative arts or other areas of study.

Practical experience

USQ offers unique practical experience through USQ's very own production company Artsworx. Throughout the year Artsworx stages many public theatre and music productions and exhibitions and works extensively to provide practical opportunities for students studying Creative Arts as well as bring experience of the arts into our local communities.

There are also many opportunities to demonstrate your skills in TV scenes, show-reels, the Children's Festival, Naturalism Now and the annual and long-running Shakespeare Festival.

Career outcomes

This degree will give you practical training in the techniques and skills you will need to work as an autonomous actor across digital mediums and live performance genres. Graduates of this degree can enjoy a rewarding career as an actor, collaborative artist, technical theatre officer, scenographer, dramaturge, events manager, play and screenwriter, arts administrator, community arts officer, youth arts officer, researcher, marketing officer, secondary school teacher.
