Course overview

Our MSc Chemistry course offers you the opportunity to engage with some of the most pressing global challenges — from developing and characterizing sustainable materials and renewable energy solutions to advancing biochemical understanding and health technologies. The programme provides a diverse selection of modules across cutting-edge areas of chemistry, alongside sessions that build practical laboratory skills, technical expertise, scientific writing, communication, and presentation abilities.

In our research-led teaching approach, you will study at an advanced level, covering both the traditional core areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, while exploring interdisciplinary topics. The course allows you to tailor your learning to focus on themes that align with today's most dynamic industrial and research sectors, including: sustainable and green chemistry, materials, energy, and chemical biology and biochemistry.

You'll join a department whose research is shaping the future — with 97% of our Chemistry research rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).
