About Materials Engineering, MSc - at University of Padua

Materials Engineering is an interdisciplinary and revolutionary sector that has transformed every aspect of modern life by gradually introducing new materials crucial to the development of new technologies and numerous industries. The training is expected to give the students a specific professional knowledge, targeted at finding the best solutions for the production of materials and for their transformation and use processes

Programme structure

Compulsory in-depth course units aimed at providing:
– completion of basic and methodological training
– tools for in-depth knowledge of all classes of materials (courses in Science and technology of ceramic materials, glass and composite materials)
– production methods of the different classes of materials
– mechanical design
– materials transformation and processing technologies
– selection and management of materials in operation
The elective course units, many of which include design, experimentation and analysis activities, provide students with the widest possible preparation in those aspects that best fit their job expectations.

The training offer is broken down into 2 curricula, each offering a variety of combination of compulsory and elective course units:
- Curriculum Functional Materials (Materials for energy/Nano-bio materials)
- Curriculum Advanced Materials Technologies

Graduates can work in a variety of industries, from companies producing or using materials to research institutes or laboratories of the new materials field, as highly qualified engineers capable of designing and developing complex innovative products or processes, and addressing design issues with traditional and innovative materials.
