About Energy Generation, MSc - at University of Liverpool

This advanced engineering programme will equip you for the challenge of meeting world energy demand whilst decreasing CO2 emissions.

You'll gain an in depth knowledge of all energy generation techniques including conventional hydrocarbon fuel, nuclear plant and renewable (wind, tidal and solar) devices.

The programme also provides advanced engineering science skills including FE and CFD analysis. Plus you'll develop your research and management skills on your individually supervised project.

The programme is designed primarily for those interested in developing power plant for electricity generation or transport, or who are selecting and operating energy generating equipment.

Normally you'll need a good first degree in any branch of engineering or science with significant Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics content to join the programme.

The programme consists of a taught component and a major research based project. The taught component is organised in two 12-week semesters with examinations at the end of each semester. The taught part of the programme is assessed in January and May and represents 120 credits from a total of 180. The remaining 60 credits are allocated to the project.

Projects

Project work contributes 60 credits, which will be based on a topic of industrial or scientific relevance, and will be carried out in laboratories in the University or at an approved placement in industry. The project is examined by dissertation, and award of the MSc (Eng) degree will require evidence of in-depth understanding, mastery of research techniques, ability to analyse assembled data, and assessment of outcomes.
