Course overview
The MA in Reading in Practice is the first course in the UK to study how creative literature and its depiction of human troubles and possibilities resonates with people emotionally and imaginatively; and how reading can contribute to health in its broadest sense.
This field is now often called ‘Bibliotherapy’ and on this MA we study books of all kinds and from all periods. You'll gain the ability and confidence to use all literature as a form of personal time-travel and meditation – and in turn to create this process for others.
We'll show you how to form reading groups based on the innovative ‘Get Into Reading’ model, a reader-development outreach project run by a University affiliate across Merseyside (in schools, hostels, community libraries and day centres for the elderly). See www.thereader.org.uk.
