Course overview

The University of Liverpool Management School is one of an elite group of institutions worldwide to be AACSB-Accredited.

Find out how studying an MBA at an AACSB Accredited Management School can help you develop the higher level leadership skills needed to make a difference to your career, company and community by coming to our open evening on Tuesday 26th February, 4 - 6.30pm.

In studying this MBA programme you'll develop your professional skills and gain a critical awareness of the issues involved in leading and managing complex organisations, with a particular emphasis on business finance and the role of business in society.‌

The programme has three key elements:

  • a grounding in the core disciplines essential to management
  • specialised instruction in business finance, including taught courses
  • a project or dissertation comprising an independent piece of research linking the first two elements.

The MBA Business Finance and Management programme gives opportunities to develop business finance and management specialisms through a wide range of compulsory and elective modules. The programme emphasises the enhancement of business and management skills – analysis, problem solving, decision-making, effective communication and leadership – which can be applied in the modern organisation. The core elements of the programme – leadership, strategy, managing the environment, managing change and innovation, managing financial resources – are delivered in concentrated blocks to encourage depth of understanding and to facilitate interactive teaching and learning.

A key core module “Developing as a Manager and Leader” runs across two semesters. It has a strong focus on the development of management and leadership skills and knowledge, based on a strong foundation of self awareness. Students access a wide range of diagnostic resources, and also benefit from and apply constructive feedback, networking opportunities, placements, guest speakers, and careers counselling to enable them to apply the theories and concepts to which they are exposed.

Application of theories in practice is a key element of our MBA programmes. Case studies are central to teaching and learning, and work on real projects for organisations – both individual and in groups, is accessible through a range of opportunities including the work based project and the student-led consultancy service. The elective modules, which allow focused specialisation or the development of greater breadth, come from a wide range of business finance and management disciplines and fully reflect the extensive range of expertise in the School and in the wider University.
