Description:

Philosophy at Leeds is one of the leading philosophy departments in the UK. Members of staff are active in all the main areas of the subject and have an international reputation for research across many areas ranging from ethics, metaphysics, and the philosophy of science to the philosophy of religion and aesthetics.

We have a large and thriving doctoral programme, and have been very successful in funding research students. We prides itself in offering a high level of individual supervision and numerous opportunities for philosophical interaction. A strong emphasis is placed on professional training and development.

  • Recognised internationally by the Philosophical Gourmet Report for excellence in Metaphysics, Philosophy of Art, Philosophy of Action, Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Physics.
  • Four active research centres: the Centre for Aesthetics, the Centre for Ethics and Metaethics, the Centre for the History and Philosophy of Science, and the Centre for Metaphysics and Mind.
  • Many of our PhD graduates have gone on to academic positions in the UK, the US and elsewhere.

The PhD in Philosophy is also available on a part-time basis.
