About History and Philosophy of Science, PhD - at University of Leeds
PhD, MPhil and Master by Research in History and Philosophy of Science
Year: 2018/19
Description:
The Centre for History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) has a vigorous postgraduate research culture, with around twenty PhD students.
The major fields of PhD recruitment are Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Physics, and History of Science, Technology and Medicine from 17th century to 20th.
A significant number of our PhD students work in collaboration with regional museums, including the Thackray Medical Museum and Leeds City Museum, as well as with national bodies such as the Science Museum, the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (Cambridge) and the British Telecom Archives (London).
Postgraduates in the School have their own dedicated room and seminar series, and receive support to attend academic conferences. HPS students, together with teaching staff and postdoctoral fellows, attend both the senior seminar and weekly work-in-progress seminar, at which around half the papers are given by postgraduates.
HPS PhD graduates have a fine track record of placement in academic jobs both in Britain and around the world.
