Programme Aims and Features

The Faculty of Education in collaboration with the Faculty of Science offers an inter-disciplinary five-year honours degree focusing on the study and teaching of the science subjects Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science and Integrated Science in the new senior secondary school curriculum.

The double-degree curriculum integrates academic and professional studies in science education. Students complete a Science major programme in the Faculty of Science, and Education Professional Core courses in the Faculty of Education. Professional aspects of the double degree are phased in gradually over the five years, including pedagogical, psychological and sociological courses, and teaching practice in Hong Kong secondary schools. The curriculum focuses on the teaching of the science subjects as it takes place in mainstream Hong Kong schools.

Students are required to complete the Education Professional Core Courses and one of the following 10 Science majors over 5 years of studies:

Biochemistry
Biological Sciences
Chemistry
Earth System Science
Ecology and Biodiversity
Environmental Science
Food and Nutritional Science
Geology
Molecular Biology & Biotechnology
Physics

Professional Recognition

Upon graduation, the BEd&BSc programme offers qualification equivalent to a BSc plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, a professional teaching qualification recognised in Hong Kong schools and internationally.

Entry requirements

If you take the International Baccalaureate Diploma, GCE A-level/International A-Level, SAT/AP or All India Senior School Certificate Examination and Indian School Certificate, please take note of the standards as below:

International Baccalaureate Diploma - 33, candidates should have completed the full IB Diploma, including CAS, TOK, and the Extended Essay.
GCE A-Level/International A-Level - 2A's and 1B, candidates should present at minimum of 3 A-level subjects, excluding English and Chinese language.
SAT Reasoning Test/ACT plus Writing and SAT Subject Test/Advanced Placement Test - Redesigned SAT: 1350, SAT Subject Tests: 600 in each of the 3 subjects, AP Exams: Level 3 in each of the 3 subjects
All India Senior School Certificate Examination and Indian School Certificate - 90%, Candidates should present a minimum of 5 subjects in the Grade 12 Indian Board examinations.
