About Lifelong Learning Sector (Literacy), PCE - at University of Greenwich
Numeracy is one ofthe key skills required for future training and employment, to teach andinspire students at this stage is essential to their career prospects.
If you want tobecome a teacher of numeracy in further education, our full time ProfessionalCertificate in Education (PCE) will give you the skills you need for teachingand classroom management. Whether you want a career teaching in colleges, adulteducation centres, art colleges, health care or community organisations our PCEprogramme will lead to the essential qualification required. We also encompasstraining for public services and a wide range of commercial and voluntaryorganisations.
You will gain thepedagogical skills needed to teach numeracy in the lifelong learning sector.You will analyse innovative approaches to the teaching of both mathematicalthinking and processes, review resources and activities across a range ofmodels, plus strategies for dealingwith errors and misconceptions.
Over the course ofyour training you will plan, deliver, assess and evaluate teaching and learningstrategies that generate enthusiasm for mathematics and challenge and empoweryour learners.
Programme structureOur core programmewill see you based in a placement college where you will participate in a rangeof professional activities. In Phase 1, you will be there for three days a weekto observe and undertake teaching in your subject area. For the remaining twodays, you will be based at the university campus.
In Phase 2, you willattend your placement college for four days a week, and the university for thelast day. In total you will complete a minimum of 125 hours of teachingexperience.
Student supportThroughout yourtraining with us you will be supported and assessed by a mentor as well as atutor at the university. Our experts will help you develop a knowledge andunderstanding of mathematical concepts and processes.
