About Specialist Practitioner (District Nursing), PG Dip - at University of Greenwich

The Specialist Practitioner (District Nursing) programme is designed for nurses who wish to pursue a career in district nursing.

The programme aims to integrate the study of health, policy, research and evidence-based practice within the context of district nursing practice. It will enable you to explore and debate policy, theory and research related to district nursing within the public health context.

The aims of the programme are:

  • The course aims to provide the knowledge and skills to deliver evidenced based care to patients eligible for District Nursing services care and for the student to have the required skills to lead the team of staff responsible for this provision.
  • Through a combination of theory and practice, students will be supported to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to deliver District Nursing services within the context of contemporary local and national policy.
  • The programme aims to fully prepare practitioners to deliver and lead district nursing services safely and effectively in order to proactively and innovatively promote health and wellbeing and prevent ill health at individual, group and community levels.
