About Applied Drug Discovery, MSc - at University of Greenwich

This programme is taught as either a classic one-year programme, or delivered through blended e-learning on a two-year part-time basis.

The degree builds on Pfizer Ltd's 'in house' training programme. It teaches how fundamental science is applied to the discovery and development of medicines. The programme was designed and conceived by industry experts in drug discovery and will be delivered and assessed by subject matter experts from both industry and the university.

The course will comprise of 60 credits at certificate level, 60 credits at diploma level and 60 credits at Master's level; and as such intermediate exit awards are available.

For those students based overseas not wishing to participate in a laboratory-based research project at Medway School of Pharmacy the Extended Dissertation module (at Masters level) is compulsory. Please contact the Department for more details.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To produce graduates trained in the processes by which fundamental science is linked to the design and development of modern medicines
  • To teach students an understanding of the drug discovery process
  • To provide students with the experience of critically appraising the research questions and techniques that are routine in the workplace
  • To provide expert preparation for students who wish to pursue a career in drug discovery, or wish to proceed to a higher degree (PhD).
