About English Literature with Creative Writing, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich
This degree is offered by the Department of Literature, Language and Theatre. It allows you to combine studies in English literature and creative writing in order to develop an understanding of literary texts through both study and practice.
The English literature component of the degree emphasises literature written since 1800, and interprets 'English literature' broadly to include drama and visual narratives as well as fiction and poetry, visual art and theatre. The courses look at the historical, social and cultural contexts in which texts are produced and received.
The creative writing component of the programme gives you the opportunity to explore fiction, poetry, performance writing, playwriting and screenwriting. Assessment consists of portfolios of work produced each term, alongside journals and reflective essays, during which you will reflect on the development of your writing process.
The aims of the programme are:
- To provide a grounding in English literature from the Renaissance to the present day
- To develop your fundamental writing skills in a range of disciplines, while allowing specialisation through a choice of options
- To enable you to undertake research and develop the skills to critically evaluate texts and contexts.
