About Biological Sciences, BSc (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

This is a career-oriented programme that will allow you to gain a strong foundation in key areas of molecular biological sciences and develop a wide range of scientific skills to prepare you for employment or for further study.

The programme has a strong emphasis on hands-on practical work, and one quarter of the assessment in the first two years is practical based. In addition, there is a student-led project in the final year. The programme can be studied full or part-time and may include a sandwich year in industry.

You should apply for this programme if you are interested in basic research and development, teaching, or in working in hospital laboratories, multidisciplinary biological environments, the scientific civil service or scientific journalism. A significant proportion of our graduates pursue further study towards Masters and PhD level degrees and careers in research.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To provide students with a knowledge of molecular biology and genetics, biochemistry, and medical sciences as well as the practical applications of the biological sciences
  • To prepare students for work in the field of biological sciences, and to develop the necessary professional and transferable skills through a variety of stimulating and varied learning environments that can be built on throughout the students' professional life.
