About Early Years, BA (Hons) top-up - at University of Greenwich
What we learn in the early years ofour lives shapes the adults we become.
Our Top-Up degree is a one-yearqualification for foundation and honours graduates who wish to retrain in EarlyYears. You will have the opportunity to graduate with not only a degreebut also with Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS).
During the Top-Up year you willdevelop your ability to successfully lead practice across the Early YearsFoundation Stage, support and mentor colleagues and to raise standards inmulti-agency settings. As many of our students are working in the early yearsenvironment, most of your lectures take place on just one day of the week tofit in with work schedules.
Embedded in all courses are thegraduate skills that employers look for, with a focus on leadership and management. Youwill develop your presentation delivery, group working and researching skills.Your studies will also incorporate and reflect on the core values of theworkforce, reviewing practice and policy.
Throughout your year with us, you willbegin to specialise in an area of early years that you are passionate about.This will then be the focus of your research for your dissertation. You mayeven wish to further develop your chosen specialism in a Master's degree. With a dedicated teaching staff to support yourlearning, we encourage our students to meet regularly with their personaltutors, all of whom are experts in their fields.
By the end of your Top-Up year we aimfor you to be a visionary leader in the workplace. You will fully understand theneed to work in partnership with families to encourage a child's physical, intellectual, social andemotional development. You'll also have a working knowledge of children's rights and how to employ practices of equality andinclusion as you embark on your new career in the early years sector.
