About Pharmacology and Physiology, BSc (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

Our programme is taught as a full-time three-year programme or a four year programme incorporating an industrial placement 'sandwich year'. This programme intends to immerse students in laboratory-based science and is taught by leading experts in pharmacology and physiology. Year 1 will focus on anatomy, physiology and the basic principles of pharmacology. Years 2 and 3 will give a much greater focus on specialised areas in pharmacology. The sandwich year option will provide students with hands-on practical experience in an industrial research laboratory. The programme also provides a number of elective options, allowing students to tailor their skills and training to their specific career goals. Throughout the programme there will be a strong emphasis on both laboratory research, and future employability.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of the scientific discipline of pharmacology and how these can be applied to the understanding of drug actions in the various physiological systems of the body.
  • To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of how the scientific discipline of pharmacology is integral to the drug discovery and development process.
  • To give a detailed understanding of the variety of technical approaches and research strategies which underpin pharmacology and drug discovery.
