About English Literature, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich
English Literature is a BA Hons degree offered by the Department of Literature, Language and Theatre. It allows you to specialise in the study of poetry, the novel, film and theatre, while also incorporating courses from a variety of other subject pathways.
This programme emphasises the literature of the last two centuries, and English literature is interpreted broadly to include drama and visual narratives as well as fiction and poetry, visual art, film and theatre. The programme looks at the historical, social and cultural contexts in which texts are produced and received. Full advantage is taken of our culturally and historically rich location and proximity to central London. Visits to theatres, art galleries and museums are integral to many modules.
OutcomesThe aims of the programme are:
- To encourage you to think critically about the nature of English study in relation to their own intellectual and professional interests
- To provide a grounding in English literature from the Renaissance to the present day while giving opportunities to study key aspects of the literature and cultural history of Europe and the Americas
- To examine the connections between critical theory and the practice or performance of literature.
