About Higher Education, PG Cert - at University of Greenwich
The PG Cert in Higher Education is offered in online blended mode and is part time. It is suitable for people already employed in higher education (HE) who need to gain a teaching qualification and who also wish to register with the Higher Education Academy/Nursing and Midwifery Council; it may be also be appropriate for suitably qualified people who would like to teach in HE but are not yet employed in the sector.
Most teaching and learning activities take placeonline and the programme uses a variety of web 2.0 tools, including Moodle, to provide a socially interactive and engaging experience. This includes learning materials, resources, webinars and other activities and opportunities for sharing and interaction both in study groups and across the programme cohort. The programme includes four compulsory face to face study days on Saturdays, on campus atGreenwich (an induction day inSeptember and three further Study Days). Forinternational participants at Partner Colleges, induction will consist of morethan one day, at your own institution.Teaching practice assessments are also conducted face to face. Participants are supported by the programme team and their peers, the online course tutor, personal tutors, and a mentor who is normally from yourown department or institution.
Graduates of this programme can join the MA Education and NMC qualified participants can proceed to the MSc in Advanced Practice (for Healthcare Practitioners).
The programme is build around critical reflectionon practice and integration of practice and theory, andincludesthe following topics: pedagogical theories and their applicationin teaching strategiesand planning; reflectiveand evidence-basedpractice; inclusivity and diversity; assessment and feedback; studentexperience and engagement; learning lnvironments; learningdesign including assessment andtechnology enhanced learning; Quality Assurance and enhancement; curriculumevaluation; teaching and learning in inter-professional settings (NMC); professionalism.
The aims of the programme are:
- To enable participants to design and implement effective courses and individual teaching and learning episodes
- To develop participants' facilitative, reflective and evaluative skills for teaching and learning
- To provide the opportunity and impetus for participants to advance their own professional development as part of a community of scholars and professionals.
