About Mechanical Engineering, BEng (Hons) - at University of Glasgow
Mechanical engineering plays a vital role in manufacturing and technological advancement and impacts on society at many different levels.What will I study?
You will develop a fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles and learn to apply them to real engineering problems.
You will study four main themes throughout the programme:
- Engineering science – which addresses control, dynamics, electricity, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, materials, statics and structures, stress analysis, thermodynamics and vibrations.
- Engineering practice – which focuses on the procedures of engineering manufacture with an emphasis on communication, drawing and computer-aided design.
- Design – which is a thread running through the whole degree programme.
- Professional engineer – which develops your awareness and understanding of the organisation of industry, finance, human behaviour and the engineer’s responsibility for health, safety and environmental issues.
How will I learn?
Teaching is delivered through a combination of techniques including lectures, small group and individual project work, labs, tutorials, computing skills, design assignments, presentations, a teambuilding course and business management tasks that are integrated together throughout the degree programme.
