Course overview

This degree programme produces graduate engineers capable of exploiting current and future technologies to produce competitive and innovative products.

What will I study?

You will follow the same curriculum as the degree programme in Mechanical Engineering for the first two years, including studies in engineering design and computer-aided design with some studio work at the Glasgow School of Art. In the following years the lecture programme is common with the Product Design Engineering programme, with project and studio work closely focused on mechanical design. The MEng programme includes a deeper study of design management, additional specialist subjects and further design project work.

How will I learn?

Teaching is delivered through a combination of techniques including lectures, small group and individual project work, labs, tutorials, computing skills, design assignments, presentations, a teambuilding course and business management tasks that are integrated together throughout the degree programme.

Special feature

An extensive design project, including studio work, helps to integrate the various engineering skills and to understand the business and social context within which design takes place.

Notes
  • Accreditation by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers assures you of a speedy route to chartered engineer status.

  • The University also offers a degree programme in Product Design Engineering.
