Overview of the university

History

The University of Ghana was established in 1948 when it was formerly named the University College of the Gold Coast, and an affiliate college of the University of London. In 1961 the University gained its full university status. The main campus is located in Legon, whilst the medical school is located in Korle Bu, and the teaching hospital in Accra.

International Applications

Hundreds of students from over 60 countries study at the University of Ghana each year, ensuring that there is rich multi-cultural environment. International applications to the University are accepted all year round and must be made directly to the university. English language requirements may also be part of the entry requirements, however, English language courses are on offer for students that do not fulfil these requirements.

Subject Areas

International students can join the University of Ghana in their first or second semester starts (July and January). Over 60 courses at the undergraduate level are on offer to international students, however, almost 150 courses are on offer to students that wish to study at the postgraduate level.
