Person-Centred Counselling Skills (PG Cert) (Part time) University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

This part-time Certificate course provides students with an opportunity to acquire the practical experience and the theoretical understanding required to offer counselling skills in a person-centred style. The content will cover some of the recent developments within the CBT field including the use of mindfulness-based approaches.

Structure

Course members meet for a weekly class during term time only, with occasional extra weekend workshops. Sessions include theory workshops; structured and unstructured group work; skills practice; the use of audio/video recording with peer group and tutor feedback; written analysis and reflection. All areas will be assessed throughout the course using a variety of written and practical assignments and will involve self, peer and tutor assessment.

Entry requirements

No previous degree is required to apply for this course. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of previous study of Counselling Skills, a good understanding of CBT theory and potential opportunities to develop counselling skills in a voluntary placement or a professional role during the course. Some experience of a helping role in which counselling skills are used would be advantageous.
