About Landscape History, MA - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

UEA's Landscape History pathway explores in-depth documentary and archaeological approaches to the history of the English landscape. The course aims to equip students with advanced level knowledge and understanding of landscape history through progressive study, with a view to developing skills in critical evaluation of the subject.

Structure

Specialist core modules cover the scientific investigation of past environments, the archaeology of the medieval landscape and post-medieval landscape history. Study commences with teaching and learning on specialist units and culminates in the in-depth personal study that is required to produce the dissertation.

Teaching

Teaching material ranges from early prehistory to the Cold War, from henges and hillforts, historic gardens and wartime pillboxes. UEA is extremely proud of its lively research community, which includes not just MA students but PhD students and teaching staff that contribute to a collaborative and intellectually stimulating study environment.

Employability

The MA programme offers an intensive and practical preparation for those who seek further postgraduate study in this area, but is also designed for those who wish to enter a profession for which knowledge and practical experience of the historic environment is desirable.
