Course overview

The MRes Computing Science provides students with foundation training in the research skills sufficient to enter a Doctoral programme. This MRes is also suitable for candidates who wish to obtain a research oriented degree in a short period of time.

Study

This MRes programme is designed to bridge the gap between undergraduate studies and the skills required by professional researchers. The MRes pathway offers a greater research element than other MSc programmes offered by the School of Computing Science. It also gives students the opportunity to gain credit for the taught components.

Structure

You will specialise in one of the broad areas of the School of Computing Science's research. Study will include taught modules, research techniques, and a directed study module with a project component. This MRes also requires you to complete a focused dissertation, which will be more substantial than that of other taught MSc courses.

Teaching

Your Academic Advisor will guide you through module choices and assist you in choosing suitable study topics. Your opportunity to excel using your first-class skills and knowledge will combine with analytical and critical research skills, communication skills and professional project management.

Employability

As a graduate from this course, you will have an excellent foundation for entry to a Doctoral programme. There is an emphasis on developing your transferrable skills applicable to a future research career in the commercial or public sector.

Entry requirements

Open to students with a good first degree (min 2.1 or equivalent) in Computer Science or similar subject, or those with equivalent qualifications and experience.
