The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), providing Chartered membership (MCIOB).  

MSc (non-technical) - this degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council (EngC) as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Together they represent around 100,000 of the world’s leading professional engineers.

To hold accredited qualifications for CEng registration, you must also hold a Bachelor (Hons) degree that has been accredited as partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).


Entry requirements

You will require at least a 2:2 degree or equivalent in a Civil Engineering or Construction related discipline.

If you don’t have a degree or an accredited degree, we can consider your application if supported by significant industrial experience within the engineering sector. Please include evidence of all experience you have in your application. Whilst the University guidelines on prior learning will be followed, RPL will only be recommended where applicants can present a portfolio of professional work, deemed to be of an appropriate level.

If English is not your first language you will need an English language qualification, for this course you will require IELTS 6.0 (minimum of 5.5 in any areas).

Professional Membership

To get the most out of the programme you are expected to be a member of a professional engineering body.

Before you join this Masters degree, you should contact the memberships department of your professional body to ensure that they will recognise this programme as part of your application for Chartered Engineer status.
