Course overview

This course will equip the individual with professional and technological knowledge and skills in welding leading to technical diploma and competency as a welding technologist. Welding Technologies involves all aspects of welding training which include the management and participation in areas of welding inspection, technical support, assistant to engineer and advisor to welders and operators.

    To produce Engineering technicians who analyze and apply the knowledge and laboratory experiences to solve welding problems.

    To produce Engineering technicians who balance the role of being a leader and a team member by utilising effective communication skill to support their role in the industries.

    To produce Engineering technicians who are committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement.

    To produce Engineering technicians who practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility.

    To produce Engineering technicians who are capable of embarking on business and technopreneurial activities.

Majors in welding technology will be able to:

    Apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering technology fundamentals to well defined practical procedures and practices.

    Analyze well-defined engineering problems in welding specialization.

    Formulate solutions to well-defined technical problems related to welding.

    Assist in the formulation of welding systems, components or processes to meet specified needs.

    Apply appropriate techniques, resources and engineering tools to well-defined welding engineering activities, with an awareness of their limitations.

    Demonstrate an awareness of and consideration for societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and their consequent responsibilities.

    Communicate effectively with the engineering community and society at large.

    Function effectively in a diverse technical team.
