About Environmental Sciences, BA (Hons) - at Trinity College Dublin
What are environmental sciences?Environmental sciences primarily aim to understand and mitigate the effects of human population on natural systems and processes. Because this involves confronting major national and global issues it requires the integration of many scientific disciplines. Chemistry, Geography, Geology and Zoology contribute to this course.
What will you study?
Teaching is by lecture, seminar, practical laboratory and fieldwork classes in areas such as:
- Environmental management
- Planning
- Water technology
- Global environmental change
- Environmental chemistry.
Joint modules from other departments include bioindicators and pollution, biometeorology, groundwater quality and ecology.
In the Senior Sophister (fourth) year you will submit a thesis on an environmental project, either on a topic from a prepared list or on an area of your own choice. In the past students have undertaken projects on air pollution, waste management, restoration ecology, water quality, habitat management and green house gas emissions.
