About War and Society, MA - at Swansea University
The MA in War and Society is a truly unique course exploring seismic events that sparked violent change throughout the course of human history.
You will attempt to investigate what war means, and discover a meaningful definition. Analysed through multiple contexts including the political, social, cultural, technological, historical, military and media, you will learn how messages can be distorted in subtle and sophisticated ways.
This is a collaborative, interdisciplinary MA Degree programme that is harnessed by the breadth of research expertise in the School of Culture and Communication.

Your War and Society Experience
You study three compulsory 20-credit international relations modules, and a further three optional modules, before taking a 60-credit dissertation project in the second part of the course.
The compulsory modules are: research on war and society; war, technology and culture; and war, identity and society.
A wide selection of further optional modules span from approaches to international relations, to politics in contemporary Britain, and from violence, conflict and development to cyber governance.
Your dissertation is written on a specialist war and society topic of your choice.
War and Society Employment Opportunities
You will develop a deep level of knowledge around war and society, as well as excellent oral, writing and research skills.
Graduates of the MA in War and Society go on to have careers in government and politics, humanitarian organisations, military organisations, business and media.
