Course overview
This course is part of our built environment programme. You study modules in important areas of building surveying such as the environment, building conservation and fire studies.
We are a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors approved partnership centre for surveying education. We provide practical and thorough training and you develop all the key building surveying skills. We support and guide you as you become a successful, well-rounded professional practitioner.
You develop the personal skills and qualities needed in the changing employment market. This approach, with field trips and practical exercises, makes the learning relevant to your future career.
We have good links with local professional and voluntary groups with large property portfolios. They provide various building stock for case studies and project work, which centre on actual buildings with real clients.
During year three, you can take an optional one year placement working in a building organisation or professional practice. After completing the placement, some students take up full employment with their placement organisation and finish their studies part-time.
There are many rewarding and well-paid opportunities for surveyors, and our graduate surveyors are sought by leading organisations.
You learn through * lectures * seminars * tutorials * practical laboratory classes * workshops * fieldwork * site visits * self-directed project work.
Our staff team consists of experienced chartered surveyors and other building professionals. We also employ visiting lecturers from consultancy companies and large contractors to reinforce the practical nature of the course.
By selecting optional modules, you can also specialise in
building conservation
building control
project management
The course is also available part-time over five years. If you have a suitable HND/C then you can study part-time over three years, one day a week on campus.
