Course overview
This course has gained a reputation for excellence among employers and recognition from professional bodies. Our students regularly win national awards for the quality of their work, and our graduates develop successful careers.
We designed it in collaboration with construction companies and academics who have expertise in advanced technological design. You learn the principles of building design and work with the latest industry standard computer-aided design packages. These include software with virtual reality, and energy and environmental simulation tools. You make full use of our modern computing, drawing and laboratory equipment.
Many of our staff are qualified technologists and architects with experience in industry. We have experts in - construction materials - technical design - architecture - information technology - professional practice.
We combine lectures, seminars and tutorials with - detailed discussions - practical laboratory classes - workshops - fieldwork - self-directed project work in the design studio. You gain a solid grounding in sustainability issues, which gives you an advantage as green issues are increasingly a factor in building regulations.
You spend your third year as a trainee architectural technologist. This is a real job, which pays a realistic wage and prepares you for employment.
Visiting lecturers from consultancy companies, practitioners and local government build on the work of full-time staff and reinforce the practical nature of the course.
Recent field trips include visits to European cities such as - Barcelona - Paris - Lyon - Berlin.
What the experts say
