Course overview
This top up year is ideal if you have a Foundation Degree Performing Arts, equivalent qualifications, or enough experience to take a year of study at this level.
It brings together skills and expertise from a range of subjects relating to performing arts such as * theatre performance * music * music technology.
The performing arts have always played an important role in community development, and this top up year allows you to develop in several ways.
These include
building on your individual professional skills
developing your ability to learn independently through a work-based learning module, where you work with a local agency or group
applying your specialist skills in sound recording, education or community arts
further developing your performance skills and the skills needed to work with others. You do this by creating a group production or performance delivered at the end of the second semester.
You also further develop your understanding of the role played by, and the importance attached to, the performance of music or drama by
institutions or professions concerned with health and wellbeing
arts and media industries, including cinema
Finally, you reflect on and assess your own performance skills, including your ability to take up a career in performing arts.
We place great emphasis on individual professional development and on team and group work.
Throughout the year, tutors who are specialists in the field support your studies, alongside external practitioners and employers from local theatres and community arts projects. These typically include * actors * musicians * recording technicians * artists.
