About Psychology and Sociology, BSc (Hons) - at Sheffield Hallam University

This combined course will appeal if you have an interest in * the ways people behave and the possible sociological and psychological explanations * exploring social issues from a local and global perspective * challenging 'commonsense' views of the nature of the social world * understanding the psychological and sociological worlds from different perspectives We designed the course to give you a good understanding of psychological and sociological perspectives. You study core modules in these subjects in the first two years. The psychology modules focus on core areas such as cognitive and social psychology, psychobiology and developmental psychology. You build on these in the final year when you can choose from psychology-related modules. The core modules in years two and three focus on career development. The sociology modules include theory and research methods, and topics such as * media and consumption * drug use * globalisation * the family. In the final year, you can combine your skills through independent study in a dissertation, and/or you can design and implement your own work-related project or placement. This degree is part of our applied social sciences programme.
