Course overview
Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It has a broad scope and links the biological and social sciences. It allows us to explore, understand and predict human behaviour in a wide variety of situations. The course is ideal if you have
* an interest in how people behave and the possible explanations for such behaviour
* a desire to follow a career in a psychology-related discipline, for example clinical, educational, health, occupational or forensic psychology
* an ability to see the world from a variety of perspectives, from biological to social
We cover * health * developmental * biological * cognitive * social * forensic * organisational psychology * cognitive neuropsychology. And we give you maximum flexibility to develop your specialist interest while studying an accredited psychology degree.
You take core modules in the first two years of the course, but in the final year you make your own choices from a wide range of option modules.
We have research cubicles where you can use a range of psychological tools. These include eye tracking equipment and electroencephalography (EEG) machines. These can also be used to conduct interviews or psychometric assessments.
Our 55 seater, state-of-the-art psychology laboratory allows you to develop your research skills in a professional environment.
The last Quality Assurance Agency subject review (an independent national assessment) rated our teaching of psychology as excellent, awarding us a grade of 24, the highest grade available.
To find a career as a practising psychologist you must take a degree that has British Psychological Society accreditation. Without this, further professional training in psychology is not usually possible.
