Course overview

This course provides a broad, multidisciplinary study of physical education and youth sport. It is for those considering a career as a physical education (PE) teacher, or in the wider area of youth sport provision and development. You develop your knowledge and understanding of the concepts, processes and content of the National Curriculum for Physical Education how physical education and youth sport can contribute to developing confident and successful learners, and responsible citizens contemporary issues that influence the wider context of youth sport in school and in surrounding communities the broad range of roles associated with the current physical education and youth sport strategic environment Optional modules allow you to develop your areas of academic interest. You have access to excellent teaching facilities and one of the finest suites of sport and exercise science laboratories in the UK. Teaching and learning includes seminars, workshops, practical tasks and projects. Graduates can go on to achieve full teacher status by studying for a fourth year after the course to gain a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE).
