This course is suitable if you want to continue your academic studies in English and have an interest in finding a career in education. We prepare you for working as an effective professional in a range of educational settings.
We develop your knowledge of education policies and practices. We also improve your skills in communication, project management and information and communication technology.
You learn how to look critically at educational debates and trends, and reflect on personal and everyday educational experiences. You develop your ability to observe and critically assess educational practices and contribute to the work of educational organisations.
The Englishhttp://www.shu.ac.uk/english/ part of the course gives you a chance to appreciate and critique a range of literature. You reflect on the changing nature of English in society and educational contexts, and develop an understanding of linguistic diversity.
You complete work experience each year in educational settings such as schools, colleges and other organisations concerned with education. This can help you to make career choices and prepares you for working life. This variety of experience is also very attractive to prospective employers.
This course does not lead to qualified teacher status but if you decide you want to go into teaching, you can take a one year postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE).
