Course overview
This course prepares you for a career in business where information systems and information technology (IS/IT) play a major part.
Unlike some courses that teach business and IS/IT as separate subjects, this course examines business needs and how IS/IT solutions can develop businesses jointly.
Throughout the course, we present business problems for you to solve with IS/IT solutions. This involves using case studies and real life examples.
You become more confident at tackling unfamiliar business and technology activities, and will appreciate the workings of modern day business organisations and cultures.
As well as gaining knowledge about business and information systems, you develop skills in communicating, organising and problem solving.
The placement year is often the most important year in the degree as you see how your skills and knowledge can be applied, the results you can bring about, and what kind of career you may wish to pursue.
Watch videos of our students talking about the course and their work placement experiences.
Previous students have had recent work placements at * Lloyds TSB * Proctor and Gamble * GlaxoSmithKline * RAF, HQ Strike Command * Nestlé * Xerox * IBM * Carphone Warehouse * DASA – Ministry of Defence * Corus Group.
In the final year, you are able to use your personal experiences as well as case studies and industry examples to extend your learning. You leave with the proven ability to make an important contribution to business through IS/IT.
Many graduates go on to work for well-known international companies in a variety of roles, including consultant, business integrator, systems analyst and project manager.
We base the course at our award winning City Campus, which houses our computing laboratories and learning centre facilities.
