It was founded in 1682, and is the oldest art academy in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world. The Academy played an important role in the art movement of Dutch Impressionism.

The Academy is home to around 1,000 students, around 56% of whom are international students, hailing from 60 different countries. The Hague is also famous for being a very internationally focused city, as the seat of the Netherlands government, royal family and the International Court of Justice.
Whilst the history of KABK shows that it has focused on classically training artists, it has modernised its teachings, and now incorporates a variety of different styles and mediums. As well as still offering a programme in Fine Art, it also offers programmes in new media and new technologies, meaning that your education is both historically established and future-proofed.
