Course overview

Aberdeen is the energy capital of Europe. This part-time distance learning course in oil and gas law is aimed at oil and gas professionals (lawyers and non-lawyers) from any jurisdiction. Students who wish to specialise in oil and gas law will also find this course very beneficial.

The course provides the opportunity to critically assess and examine key legal issues in the oil and gas sector both in the UK and in other leading areas. On successful completion of the course you will be in a position to understand and deal with some of the main energy legal issues. You will also gain key employability, enterprise and transferable skills.

What you will study

This course will be taught online through our award-winning and highly interactive CampusMoodle. It has a number of functions ranging from a repository for lecture support material to video clips of guest speakers and discussion forums. The discussion forum groups will be a key part of the course, actively engaging you with the course materials, the course personnel and your fellow students. One of the unique features of this course is its flexibility, so that you can learn at your own pace, and at any time of the day or week during the semester. There is no requirement to physically attend the University at any point during the course; the whole learning experience can be conducted at a distance.

All international students, for whom English is not their first language, must gain either IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570(230 on the computerised test).

Placements and accreditations

The Course has achieved professional accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). This means that academic achievement to a prescribed level on the course is recognised by CIArb to provide students with the fullest possible exemption from their examinations at Associate, Member and Fellowship (Parts IIIA, B & C) levels. Significantly, our course is the only distance learning oil and gas postgraduate course in the UK to have this accreditation. The course is also seeking accreditation from the Energy Institute.
