Course overview
Richmond is a unique university in which to study International Relations. Virtually every student is from a different country, often far from home and wondering - perhaps for the first time - what it really means to live in an era of accelerating globalization.
Our BA degree in International Relations examines the historical, ideological, economic and political aspects of international affairs. The program familiarizes students with the central concerns of international relations - foreign policy analysis, international organizations, strategic studies, diplomacy, international political economy, international law and international relations theory.
Classroom-based instruction is supplemented by opportunities to participate in comprehensive overseas research and discussion trips. Our students often comment on the ready availability of our faculty. Average classes at Richmond are both much smaller and much more ethnically diverse than at most other universities. With a typical Junior or Senior level class size of between ten to twenty students, we emphasize individual attention, small group work, student participation, personal research paper writing and seminar-style discussion. Richmond graduates have gained entry to leading graduate schools all over the world and are working for international organizations, government agencies, the diplomatic service, and international businesses.
