Dental Public Health Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL)

Course content This degree is for dentists, primary healthcare workers and other graduates who are interested in dental public health and health promotion. You will be offered supervised experience in the theory and practice of dental public health and the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, skills and attitudes. The study programme of lectures, seminars and supervised personal project work has been designed to help you recognise and develop the necessary personal and practical skills to work in dental public health and shape dental health policy. You will be exposed to the following areas of training and experience: Oral health needs and demands assessment, including critical evaluation of the dental literature, preparing scientific reports, familiarity with indices and determinants of oral disease, the principles of epidemiology and information sources Information technology, including computer skills in data analysis, analysis of epidemiological data and competence in common computer software packages Planning and evaluating services, including resource allocation, measuring service quality and conducting audits Promoting oral health, including the principles, methods and limitations of prevention and oral health promotion, the determinants of health and preventive strategies Research and development, including understanding different methodologies and the application of scientific principles to research. You will be encouraged to develop appropriate key written, oral, groupwork and time management skills. Assessment The course is examined through two written papers, a viva, the submission of a project report and in-course assessment exercises. Entry requirements You should normally have a recognised degree and two years` post-qualification experience. Students whose first language is not English must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL 243 (computer version) or 590 (paper version). Other evidence of English Language competence may be accepted.
