The banking and finance industry has become a major end-user and even a major driver of technological innovation, such as machine learning, big data analysis and algorithm trading. This course uniquely combines theory and applications of finance, economics, quantitative methods, and big data analysis to allow you to increase your career opportunities in this fast-paced field.

Based near the heart of the UK's financial centre, our MSc International Banking and Finance degree provides the foundations for a career in financial services and the banking industry.

This course emphasises prominent contemporary issues for the sector such as financial regulation, risk management, corporate finance, banking institutions, equity analysis and securities markets. It covers all aspects of the industry from macroeconomic and corporate to computational and quantitative.

You'll also learn advanced skills in financial modelling, econometrics, equity analysis and quantitative risk management, giving you a strong advantage as you enter the industry.

What Will You Learn?

The course equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to communicate and evaluate empirical research, alongside valuable training in specialist financial databases and software packages such as Datastream, Eikon and Thomson Reuters. You'll explore key theories including financial derivative products, international financial regulation, financial risk management, equity analysis and corporate finance, and learn how to apply these concepts to real-world financial contexts.

By the time you graduate, you'll have built a strong theoretical and practical understanding of how modern financial institutions operate, including banking theory, regulation and compliance. You'll gain hands-on experience working with financial assets such as equities, fixed-income securities and derivatives, and learn how to evaluate financial instruments using financial engineering and other quantitative techniques.

Your studies culminate in a dissertation research project, giving you the opportunity to investigate a topic of your choice in depth and apply your learning to the design and execution of a substantial piece of independent research.
