About Emergent Technologies, MA - at Manchester Metropolitan University
This course (offering additional specialisms in Technology for Social Good and XR Immersive Arts) places you at the cutting edge of new and emerging fields of innovative creative practice. It will not just extend the boundaries for studying the latest creative technologies, but will actively encourage you to experiment and develop your practice in an interdisciplinary incubator environment, opening up new arenas as you progress, and supporting you to define new fields of digital creative technologies.
You will be based in the School of Digital Arts (SODA), located in the global city of Manchester, offering a brand new purpose-built building. Equipped with the latest emerging technologies, it will enable you to develop industry-standard skills for creating and researching content across the latest digital platforms. It's a place that offers the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic creative community of sound designers, filmmakers, photographers, games developers and more. SODA is also home to staff from a wide range of disciplines, who are research active and experts in their chosen areas who have well-established links to the wider creative media, arts and digital tech industries.
The exciting interdisciplinary nature of this course offers a range of collaborative opportunities with students across other SODA courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as across the wider university and international partners, developing your creative expertise along the way. Whilst technical and creative skills development in the use of digital tools is central, there is also a strong focus on the skills needed for effective collaboration, and the cross-disciplinary, conceptual and entrepreneurial thinking needed to produce and disseminate creative digital content to audiences and clients.
The course will offer you an exciting opportunity to form new approaches to conceptualising and making digital content, establishing new and thought-provoking work that will change the way you think about storytelling, technologies, partners and audiences.
Please note that the optional specialisms within this course are subject to change.
