Hear from one of our tutors about studying Drama & Theatre Studies at Liverpool Hope. At Liverpool Hope, you can study both the creative and the theoretical aspects of drama and performance. This means that the courses include studio work alongside critical and historical studies. Learning is underpinned by a thorough understanding of the discipline and its place in contemporary society. This is enhanced by opportunities to specialise in areas including Contemporary Theatre, Community Drama and Documentary Theatre.

Initially, you develop critical perspectives on performance, and explore plays in workshop sessions. Apart from lectures and seminars provided by staff within the Department, distinguished visitors, such as the internationally renowned playwright Visiting Professor John Godber, contribute to the course.

You will go on to develop a deeper knowledge and critical understanding of key practitioners and genres which have influenced 20th and 21st-century theatre and will be involved in various aspects of studio practice. Single Honours students will also begin to prepare the groundwork which will then form the basis for a dissertation.

All students will be involved in advanced studio practice and performance and have the opportunity to study topics such as classic text, popular and mainstream contemporary British theatre, Shakespeare and renaissance drama, theatre as testimony. Both the single and combined honours degrees will provide you with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of performance practices. Why choose this subject?
