Our MMus in Music Performance could lead to a range of careers, both in the industry and in related fields. Previous graduates have gone on to work in performance, teaching, outreach, composition and more. If you’re already employed, this programme could seriously accelerate your promotion prospects.
During the course, you’ll choose the modules that engage you most and deepen your expertise accordingly. You’ll develop your performance skills across multiple genres, from western classical to popular and world music. The course also covers issues including performance practice, aesthetics of music performance, analysis for performers, psychology of music performance and performance presentation.
Professional performers will be on hand to give you individual tuition on your voice or instrument while you study. You’ll also be able to attend masterclasses and workshops with performers and composers, as well as live performances at London’s major venues throughout the year.
Entry requirements
The typical offer for this course is a 2:2 or higher in music. This can be from the UK or abroad, and could be in a specialist field such as popular music, music education or music technology.
If you don’t have a music degree, we will also consider evidence of relevant experiential learning (such as work as a professional performer or composer) plus either:
- A good honours degree in a different subject
- Advanced conservatoire study, which has not led to a degree
We will ask you to submit an online portfolio including links to two contrasting video-recorded performances. You'll receive upload instructions after you’ve submitted your application.
