It will equip you with a broad range of skills including critical thinking, logical analysis and textual criticism, leadership and communication skills, ensuring you are ready to confidently begin your career. Philosophy focuses on providing you with the tools for critical thinking and ethical reasoning and explores the fundamental questions about human existence, morality and knowledge. Politics analyses difference political systems, governance, public policies and the dynamics of power and justice in contemporary society. You'll open your mind to philosophical questioning, be exposed to a diverse range of philosophers and acquire a logical toolbox of skills to improve your professional abilities and develop your skills as a social scientist.
Contemporary issues in politics are explored focusing on concepts of power, democracy and terrorism. You'll also investigate the contemporary threats facing global democracy such as misinformation, artificial intelligence and the rise of populism, and learn how to apply philosophical concepts to critical issues such as environmental degradation. Studying these two disciplines together will provide you with the foundations to think about what is right and wrong and apply these principles to real-world contexts such as everyday problems and political and policy decisions. Optional modules allow you to tailor your degree to align with specific interests in politics and philosophy and you will also have opportunities to engage in real-world projects and placements, gaining hands-on experience our experience and applying your learning in practice. *We have compared the positivity ratings of all participating UK institutions using the NSS 2025 sector data to determine Keele's position relative to other broad-based universities (i.e. excluding specialist institutions and further education colleges).
