About Geography with Business Management, BSc (Hons) - at Keele University
Whether you're passionate about creating positive change or fascinated by how the world works, Geography with Business Management at Keele examines the dynamic relationship between global economies and environments. From industry placements to immersive fieldwork, you will gain practical insights into the application of geographical knowledge in diverse business contexts to pursue careers in environmental consulting, sustainable business development, and more. Course overview Our Geography with Business Management degree integrates the principles of human and physical geography with core business concepts, offering you a multidisciplinary perspective on the interconnectedness of the global economy and the environment. Human geography explores the cultural, economic and social dynamics that shape human interactions with our environment from globalisation to spatial inequalities.
Physical geography examines natural processes and features such as climate change, landforms and ecosystems. The first year offers a comprehensive introductory programme designed to build a foundation for advanced knowledge, understanding, and skills for geographers, geologists and environmental scientists. Your studies will seamlessly blend physical elements like landscapes, climate change, and natural hazards with human aspects including social exclusion, modernisation, identity politics, and urban development patterns. Alongside these geographical components, you'll explore fundamental business concepts and sustainability practices.
To strengthen your practical skills, you'll engage in hands-on fieldwork experiences—conducting cartographic surveying on campus and participating in four, one-day field courses in Staffordshire. In the second year, you will delve into key theoretical issues in more depth, gain practical hands-on experience with human geographical research techniques, and apply these skills during a residential field course. You will also develop your understanding of business processes and organisational performance. During your final year, you'll embark on an independent research project, crafting a significant dissertation on a topic of your choice.
This capstone project will empower you to set research goals, conduct fieldwork, gather data, and critically analyse your results—showcasing your expertise, and preparing you for professional work or further academic study. Alongside your research project, you'll develop strategic business thinking by examining key challenges facing organisations within your preferred industry sector. You will also have the flexibility to personalise your studies by choosing from a variety of optional modules. *We have compared the positivity ratings of all participating UK institutions using the NSS 2025 sector data to determine Keele's position relative to other broad-based universities (i.e. excluding specialist institutions and further education colleges).
