About Bachelor Industrial Product Design, Bachelor Degree - at Howest University of Applied Sciences

Do you dream of designing your own products? Are you interested in design, technology, 3D printing, materials and prototyping? Do you like to be inventive and creative? Then the unique bachelor study programme of Industrial Product Design (IPD) is made for you. Gradually, we will teach you all the steps of the design process: from creative concept through design and technical elaboration to the presentation of a sustainable design that is ready for production.

The bachelor’s programme in Industrial Product Design at Howest offers hands-on training in sustainable design to students with a passion for innovative problem solving. This three-year, full-time programme is taught entirely in English and is offered at our Kortrijk campus to both local and international students. In our fully equipped workshops, students are immersed in a world of creativity where they are encouraged to develop and test their ideas freely with the support of an experienced team of instructors.

The curriculum incorporates all phases of the design process, from ideation and concept selection to prototyping, testing and production. Design methodologies, design sketching and visualisation, CAD, technology, style and trends, prototyping, production, user-centred design, sustainability, business management and teamwork - these are our keywords. Students employ these core concepts to create tangible solutions for a sustainable world all in close collaboration with our industrial partners.

Located in the heart of Kortrijk, a UNESCO City of Design in Belgium, our Industrial Design Centre benefits from its position in a city characterized by the many international companies housed there and their reputation for fine craftsmanship, innovation, and quality design.

Year after year, our graduates are being recognized for the outstanding quality of their work: Textirama awards 2021, Ecodesign awards OVAM 2020, Salone del Mobile in Milano 2021, Designer of the Year 2020, Henry Van de Velde awards, Reddot Design Awards.

There is also a wide selection of international exchange opportunities to consider. There is the Erasmus programme with several schools to choose from, internships abroad, and the chance to go to DeTao in Shanghai for two semesters. Throughout the programme there are many opportunities to connect with professionals in the field. There is also great job security after graduation.
